Document that changed the way I think about something in Geometry
Explain how your thinking changed in the reflection.
Homework 4- Sphere and Triangle Exploration
In homework number 4 we were asked to compare the definition of triangles in Euclidean Geometry and on Spherical Geometry. We had to conclude if all the triangles that exist in Euclidean Geometry could also exist in Spherical Geometry. Being a Liberal Studies major, I was only required to take two 310 or above math courses, so I had no idea that other types of geometry existed. So, on this homework assignment when we were asked to make a Venn diagram characterizing where the different triangle that exist in Euclidean Geometry was okay, but when it came to making a Venn diagram for triangles in Spherical Geometry I was put to a challenge. I remember I struggled, but I was able to elaborate on it and make it. When I registered for math 329-College Geometry I thought we would go more in depth on the concepts that we were taught in high school, which we did, but I never imagined that there were different geometries. This was a surprise to me, but now I know that there exists other types of geometries, and that each has its own unique characteristics, and some share ideas similarly to Euclidean Geometry. This homework assignment allowed me to think more critically and understand that there is more than Euclidean Geometry.
Document that demonstrates something you learned in terms of technology.
Explain why the technological knowledge is important.
Homework 2- Contructions
For homework 2 we were required to work with a program called Geogebra.Like I mentioned before being a non math major a lot of things were new to me as I entered math 329- College Geometry. I had no idea what Geogebra was, or how to work it. I struggled a bit with it at the beginning, but after playing around with it I got the hang of it. I myself saw the difference in the diagrams I constructed. From this homework assignment to the last few homework assignments, and even our class final, I noticed that I was able to manage Geogebra better and could do more with it. It is important to learn how to work with new technology since our world will someday only consist of technology. Geogebra is a small software, but it was something new to me, and I learned that there is a lot one can do with it. I will keep it for future purposes.
Document that demonstrates a topic or concept with which you struggled.
Explain how you struggled with the concept and what you have accomplished through the struggle.
Homework 8- Classifying Functions
For this homework assignment we were to describe functions on a plane, determine if they were injective, surjective (bijective), if they were isometric, or not isometric. From Discrete Mathematics I remembered some concepts about a bijective functions, but I had no idea how to prove it. While taking this class I was taking math 322- Foundations of Modern Math (the proof class). We hadn't covered that in math 322, so I struggled with this homework assignment. I went to the professor's office hours to ask her if what I was doing was correct. I also talked to her a few times after class to show her what I was doing and if it was correct. I also asked a few members of the class for help, and thanks to all the help I was able to finish the homework assignment. Although we hadn't covered that in math 322 I managed to work around it and find a way to do it correctly. When we covered the topic in math 322 I had a better understanding of it, and understood what I did for this assignment even better.
